FAQ

FAQ

Answers to common questions about Fantasy Steam, scoring, release dates, and game data.

How scoring works

How often do scores update?

We refresh scores twice a day - at 6:00 and 18:00 UTC - so you'll always have a fairly up-to-date view of how your picks are performing.

Why isn't my game getting any points yet?

Games only start earning points once they've actually released on Steam. If your pick is still showing 0, it's likely because the launch date hasn't passed yet - or the release date in our database might be outdated. Once the game goes live, your points will start rolling in!

My game hasn't released yet but shows 0 - is something wrong?

Nothing's wrong! This usually means either the release date in our data source (IGDB) is incorrect, or the game simply hasn't launched yet. We pull scores from Steam, so once the game actually releases, your points will update automatically. If the date is wrong in IGDB, it'll correct itself once the real launch date is known.

What is the hype percentage and why do some games not have one?

The hype percentage (0–100%) shows how much pre-release interest an unreleased game is generating. It's based on IGDB's PopScore data: how often people visit a game's page and add it to their "Want to Play" list. We only show hype for games that haven't released yet – once a game launches, we switch to the normal score. Some games don't have a hype percentage because they have little or no popularity data on IGDB yet (e.g. smaller or newly added titles). That doesn't mean they're bad picks – it just means there's less pre-release buzz to measure.

Understanding release dates

What does it mean when a game shows December 31st (or the 31st of a month)?

That's a placeholder date! It means the game is expected to release that year (or that month) but doesn't have a specific day set yet. So "December 31st" suggests "sometime this year" rather than that exact date. Same idea for "March 31st" or "June 30th" - it's "sometime that month" until a concrete date is announced.

My game's release date got pushed - will I still get points?

Good news: you keep the game on your roster! If the release date has moved outside the original draft window, you won't accrue points until the game actually launches on Steam. Once it releases, it'll start earning points as normal. Your pick isn't lost - it just kicks in when the game goes live.

Finding and picking games

The game I want to pick isn't in the list - what can I do?

All our games come from IGDB (Twitch's game database). If you can't find a title, it's probably not in their catalogue yet. You're welcome to add it yourself at igdb.com —it's a community-edited database. Alternatively, drop us a line at support@fantasysteam.com and we can look into it for you.

What happens if a game gets delisted from Steam?

If one of your picks gets pulled from Steam before or after release (e.g. it becomes an Epic exclusive), your alt pick will automatically activate as a replacement. If you don't have an alt for that slot, that pick will remain at 0 points.

Data sources

Where does the game data come from?

We use IGDB for game metadata (covers, genres, release dates) and SteamSpy for scoring data. For more details on our sources, check out our About page.
